CH4003 Aspects of Inorganic Chemistry

Year of course: Senior Sophister (Fourth Year)
Number of lecture hours: 9
Credits: 3

Dr. Y. Gun'ko:

Alkalides and electrides: definitions, synthesis, structures and properties. Introduction into nitrogen fixation, main routes of preparation of dinitrogen complexes, coordination modes of N2 to transition metal centres, protonation reactions of coordinated dinitrogen, conversion of coordinated dinitrogen into organonitrogen compounds.

Dr. P.E. Kruger:

Spin crossover (SC) in Fe(II) systems. The physical basis of its manifestation and its experimental detection. Technological advances and potential applications.

Prof. S.M. Draper:

In the third part of this course Modern Carbon-based Inorganic Materials are examined. The course looks at the formation and chemistry of the fullerene family. The properties and technological problems associated with carbon-nanotubes. The application of polyphenylene hydrocarbons and the influence of structure on their opto-electronic properties
